Events Explained

1Answer

User events are the actions users take within your application or website. These can be anything from clicking a button to completing a purchase. By capturing these events, you gain valuable insights into user behaviour, how they navigate your platform and personalise user experience. Imagine them as digital footprints users leave behind, revealing their journey and interaction points.

A few examples of events (segregated into categories for ease of understanding)

User Account Management:

  • Signed Up for an Account

  • Logged In

  • Updated Profile Information

  • Changed Password

  • Reset Password

Feature Usage:

  • Clicked a Specific Button (e.g., "Start Free Trial")

  • Submitted a Form (e.g., Contact Us form)

  • Searched for Something

  • Used a Specific Tool or Feature

  • Completed a Tutorial

Content Consumption:

  • Viewed a Specific Page (e.g., Pricing Page)

  • Watched a Video Tutorial

  • Downloaded a Document or File

  • Opened an Email from the Platform

Conversions:

  • Made a Purchase

  • Signed Up for a Paid Plan

  • Completed a Key Action (e.g., Uploading a File)

  • Shared Content on Social Media

Custom Events:

In addition to these common examples, you can also define custom events specific to your platform's functionalities.  For instance, a SaaS product might track events like Updated Account Settings (specific settings changed), Exported Data in a Specific Format (CSV, PDF, etc.), Responded to an In-App Notification (type of notification). And, an e-commerce platform might track events like "Added an item to cart" or "Abandoned cart."
